- Knowing Christ and Making Him Known

Go

The Great Commission is Jesus’ last instructions to His disciples before ascending into Heaven, but the instructions were not only to His disciples, but also to His Church — to us.  Many are confused by the Commission’s direction to “go”.  Go where?  Is Jesus saying we’re all to travel around the world on mission?  Do I have to go somewhere to be obedient to Christ’s instruction?  Not necessarily.

As You Go

In Matthew 28, the word "go" is not an imperative verb.  "Go" is a participial form in Greek and should be translated "while you go", or "in your going", or "as you go." It is the context of the main verb in the passage. Jesus was addressing a mobile company.  They were always on the go, always traveling.  The mobility of the New Testament is the background for the making of disciples.

What Jesus is saying is that wherever you go — home, school, work, or play — you are to intentionally share Jesus with those God puts around you “AS YOU GO”.

Your Key Relationship

Our desire at New Vision is for every member to have at least one “Key Relationship” in your life that you are spending time with, praying for, and ultimately sharing the life-changing message of Jesus Christ with “as you go”.

THE GREAT COMMISSION
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
